Engineer

Takahiro Nishida

Joined 2014

I entered Colorkrew as a new graduate in 2014. I'm in charge of Goalous Team's front-end. I have experience as the payment resolution team's back-end development. I challenged myself with learning to developing in swift in my 3rd year. I'm also participating in the 'Challenge Project' to create new businesses, new business design and development, all while avidly expanding my activities.
As the accounting app project manager, I'm currently pulling the project along by connecting with the customers and the team.
I'm kind of like a mascot at Colorkrew, likeable and friendly with everyone. My favorite editor is Atom.

Starting with nearly zero programming experience

My uncle looked cool while he worked. He was an engineer.
"I want a career like that, too!"
My journey down the path to becoming an engineer started with fleeting aspiration.

I didn't want to stick to only one area from beginnig to end, however, I wanted to try other areas.
I wanted to be involved in all aspects of service creation.
I began the job hunt with those thoughts in mind, and came across Colorkrew.

The people at Colorkrew shared my goals and sense of direction, but more than anything, I felt that we were on the same wavelength.
I made the decision so quickly that it even surprised the HR at Colorkrew.
Having said that, my days at university were occupied with research and group activities related to neural information processing, and my experience with programming was very limited. Given my background, I had some reservations about my ability to do the job.

However, I can now say that I want the same kind of people to join Colorkrew.
There's no other place where one can grow this much.

A point of view that goes beyond your actual job

Although I had nearly zero experience, I was able to learn programming through the payment solutions project.
It has an important role in supporting the stability of services through the internet, which allows for the worry-free use of online services.

Colorkrew's new graduates first learn the about the basics of being a company employee, then they join a team and are trained on-the-job.
Although I had no experience, the members never gave me a hard time and always took the time to listen to what I had to say.
It's reassuring to be able to immediately consult with another person when there's something I don't understand.
Being surrounded with senior collegaues who were pros in the field, not only did I gain knowledge related to the back-end and my actual job, but also I also learned how to think like an engineer.

My ability to begin thinking with an idea when learning programming languages also came to me through the influence of the payment solutions members.
This is where the foundation for me to grow as an engineer was made.

iOS app development starting from nothing

My new challenge is in native application development for smartphones.
When I said I'd like to try to make it, I got entrusted with it.
Even without experience, I was never denied the chance to challenge anything.
It was the moment I felt the spirit of "challenge what's new out there."

Astonishing as it may seem, at the time there were no engineers who could develop an iOS app.
The situation was completely different than it had been. There would be no asking for answers based on past experiences; I had to push myself to find the answers on my own.
I studied frantically and participated in study meetings and seminars held everywhere.
It's important to share information. Someday, I'll be doing the same and share my expertise in public. Yes, that's what I thought.

Working in development is hard, but more than that, it is thrilling.
You get excited about the problems that have no easy answers.
Maybe you can say this is my forte.
It may be easier to give up, but I get fired up when there's a challenge.

The new challenge of a Project Manager

Before it was a struggle to develop applications, but now, I have confidence.
Through conveying my enthusiasm for wanting to next try contacting customers and being involved in the upstream process, I became the project leader of accounting app development.

It doesn't just involve talking to customers, it also involves managing the development process and making various adjustments.
If there's a problem, I must work towards making decisions and resolutions; it's a tough job.
However, I'm at a place where I can get by on the experiences I've gained up until now.
Back-end experience from payment solutions.
Front-end experience from app development.
More than being the only one with the knowledge, it is important to be able to make quick and precise decisions.

At times like this, I can feel my growth.
I want to continue growing to become the person that the old me aspired to be.
